Welcome to Omaha!
This painting is a portrait of putting yourself through
school with terrible jobs, studying hard, getting As, entering your
thirties with a string of degrees behind your name, and finding
yourself on the brink of a new life, renting an apartment
in a small city and realizing that reality, well, bites. My
friend, Dawn Konrad-Martin, was generous enough to pose for this
painting. I asked her to smile as hard as she could.
The painting is supposed to mimic a snapshot, possibly taken by
your dad, of you, with your shiny, new degree, posing in front of
the new apartment house and life that you are embarking on.
