I have a vein that goes in a complete circle, just
like the woman in this painting. (She's me in some ways, and
a stranger in others, thus the different references you'll read
as you read on.) I described the vein to a guy I had
a crush on and he grimaced! My circle vein grossed him out!
Did I mention he was a surgery resident? So, I started this
painting, a self-portrait, of sorts, and I put myself in a bathing
suit so I could show off the vein. That vein, and the
farmer's tan are celebrations of the quirky parts of me that make
me who I am. And the Birkenstocks. I've had people tell
me that they are the ugliest shoes imaginable, but just the sight
of them can make me smile - they are so comfortable! The black
pool is more serious, because the other side of this painting
is grief. Most of it is for a relationship that didn't work
out the way I wanted it to. The title is from a Tori Amos
song called Cloud On My Tongue. You should listen to that
song when you view this piece - then you'll understand that look
on the woman's face.
