The Prairie Plant Sale Is Back!

Living Prairie Museum

Once again, Winnipeggers will have access to a cornucopia of prairie flora with the Living Prairie Museum Native Prairie Plant Sale.

Procured by Prairie Flora Greenhouse, this is your chance to enhance your gardens with some hardy native perennials, many of which we teach people to forage for, that attract some of the most beautiful and beneficial insects and animals.

I’m embarrassed to say last year’s sale was the impetus for me to finally unearth this hidden gem in our city and learn a little more about our natural environment and their efforts to protect and preserve the last vestiges of true prairie in North America.

Here are the deets:

2795 Ness Avenue

  • Friday May 16: 3pm to 6pm
  • Saturday May 17: 10am to 4pm
  • Sunday May 18: 10am to 4pm
  • Then Sundays from May 25 to June 8: 12pm to 4pm

WARNING! I was on site the first weekend last year and already many of the plants were already sold out.  Your best bet is pre-order from the Teulon based suppliers Aimee & Ken McDonald at Prairie Flora Greenhouse.

They have a full catalogue here which includes colour pictures and helpful tips like sunlight/shade requirements for each plant. Plus, if you order by April 1st, you’ll save 20%.

Email  info@prairieflora.com or call 1-877-645-0329. They’ll bring your plants into the city for pickup at the Museum on the first day of the sale.

Happy gardening!
