One Sweet Affair
Hot menus, a Food Network style cake competition, trendy chefs, and some of the most up-to-the-minute food to dress your plates?
That’s what organizers are promising at One Sweet Affair, Winnipeg’s not to be missed fall foodie event.
This gala evening on Thursday, October 28, 2010, a fundraiser for Seven Oaks Hospital, celebrates food from creation to presentation.
Your $150 ticket price gets you entertainment, drinks and dinner with multiple courses designed by Chef Joe Wojakowski at the Fort Garry Hotel while Winnipeg’s hottest chefs cross spatulas in a delectable dessert duel. Each has designed a masterpiece, and will walk you through the inspiration and components of their dessert.
Don Pattie
Don Pattie is One Sweet Affair’s Reigning Champion (2009). As well as an alphabet soup of certification (Red Seal, C.C.C., and member of the CCFCC) he’s got 30 years experience in Winnipeg kitchens like St. Charles Country Club, The Manitoba Club, Royal Palms Restaurant (Club Regent Casino) and the Niakwa Country Club.
He’s currently instructor of Patisserie in Red River College’s culinary arts program and teaches courses in Sugar and Advanced Chocolate as part of Red River’s continuing education program.
Nina Notaro
Besides being an accomplished and recognized pastry champion (in 2008, she competed at the IKA Culinary Olympics) Nina is also a cookbook author and an entrepreneur, having recently opened Cake Studio, Winnipeg’s first and only by appointment custom cake studio.
An artist by nature, Michelle’s pursuit of a Fine Arts degree lends itself well to her work in the kitchen of High Tea Bakery, where she is Head Decorator.
Pamela Krikpatrick
Having worked in Winnipeg hottest restaurants, things really started heating up for Pamela when a friend asked her to make a wedding cake. Nowadays, her creations and creativity can be seen streetside from the gallery window of her Exchange district bakery, Cake-ology.
Geoffroy Dextraze
This Montreal-born baker started his career at an Earl’s in Vancouver, then moved to Winnipeg and worked for Baked Expectations. From there, he moved over to the Fort Garry Hotel, where he has established himself as a master pastry chef, often creating amazing one-of-a-kind desserts for their most special events.
Local gourmands including George Andrews of GJ Andrews Food and Wine Shoppe, will act as judges.
Whether you’re a gourmand, a foodie, or if you just like to eat, you’re sure to have a good time as you help choose a winner and see who gets the Manitoba Dessert Grand Prix prize.
Once the judging is complete, the desserts are auctioned off, along with two fabulous trips. A silent auction, live music, and a new, epicurian twist on mingling will complete this unforgettable evening.
